Linda Kosut: Press & Reviews

Friends, fans & colleagues

I NEED TO THANK YOU -- for allowing Me and so many others
the opportunity to experience (or re-experience) Oscar through you! I think back to our conversation that night at Piedmont, and I can't believe you had any reservations about doing this show. Your heart, Your soul, Your spirit deliver Oscar Brown in THE most memorable of ways. Kudos, sister!! You keep on keepin' on -- I'm certain OBJ is standing on that stage with you!
"Who the Hell is Oscar Brown, Jr.? Leave it to my friend Linda Kosut to give me a history lesson. I was mesmerized by the drama and dark power of this material. Songs like “Bid ‘Em In" were almost too brutal to bear. But then there were the playful and delightful tunes like the one he wrote mimicking his son’s wonderment at the obvious and imaginary." Last Thursday night, we had the privilege of an inspirational reminder of the immortal contributions of Oscar Brown, Jr. to the world of music, entertainment, & humanity by 2 stunning professionals, Linda Kosut & Maggie Brown, Oscar's daughter, to the superb jazz sounds of the Max Perkoff musicians at a unique, San Francisco world-class venue, "Jazz at Pearl's," with Randy Vincent, guitar; David Rokeach, drums; & Tom Shader, bass.
...at this moment you're on stage, doing a second show--but I just wanted to take a second to let you know how much we really enjoyed the show tonight. You sang LOTS of OBJ songs I had neverh heard --- although I shouldn't be surprised --- since he's written so many & you really seem to have researched his music in depth. I was especially wowed by "Bid 'Em In." I am so glad you introduced me to it.
Awesome show, Linda. Your voice sounds wonderful! Your presence is, as always, very authentic and fun. Particularly liked the characterization and presentation in "Dat Dere". Was very moved by the slave bidding song, and adored the song about birds and the way you did it. Thank you for introducing me to the wisdom and artistry of Oscar Brown. Congratulations on an awesome job! Also lovely to hear Maggie Brown. Kudos to you for inspiring her to fly out here.

You were awesome. That is quite a show to produce.
I enjoyed the show and like the way you put it together. Your obvious love of the subject came through loud and clear.
You, my dear, were so on, so hip and so entertaining! You managed an extremely varied program with ease, and filled each song with your own very special expression. That's not an easy task with that material.

Linda Kosut at the Empire Plush Room - One of my favorite shows this year - 'nough said!
"I loved your show. I would wax eloquently, but I just plain loved the show. The selection was wonderful, the arrangements were perfect, your voice is full and rich and you sing beautifully. I'd love to hear another hour of songs. Please."
