Mr. Kicks is from Oscar Brown Jr.'s 1961 play, "Kicks & Company" starring Burgess Meredith, directed by Lorraine Hansberry; and also starring Nichelle Nichols (aka Lt. Uhura!) This show's beginning was a 2-hr televised backers' audition on the Dave Garroway "Today" show, which raised $400K for the production.
